Roman Gold Earrings


ca. 100 – 200 AD A matching pair of Roman gold earrings; elaborately decorated with tassles and granulation, good, wearable condition.

Roman specifically were known for how they loved to wear earrings, infact in ancient sources it was often commented on that they wore such heavy earrings that they distorted their ears! Indeed, the jewellery of a wealthy woman were some of the few pieces they could buy and sell themselves – so showed their personal status.

Provenance: Important London collection of Ancient art; formed in 1970s then passed by descent.
