Roman specifically were known for how they loved to wear earrings, infact in ancient sources it was often commented on that they wore such heavy earrings that they distorted their ears! Indeed, the jewellery of a wealthy woman were some of the few pieces they could buy and sell themselves – so showed their personal status.
